The first Sunday in February is considered “Community Ministry Sunday” within our denomination, as a way to celebrate the many ministries that occur in addition to traditional parish ministry.
Although I am currently serving this congregation (and enjoying it), I served for 15 years as a community minister. My ministry was among people living with AIDS, their families and the many volunteers who cared enough to reach out to those in need.
Today, most of us don’t think much about AIDS. But the need for love has not disappeared. In fact, in 2009 the UUA launched a campaign called “Standing on the Side of Love” to demonstrate to those in need of support they were and are not alone.
Join us as we reflect on the power of love in our own lives, how it sustains us in our darkest times and moves us to realize our fullest potential.
Our service begins at 11 a.m. in the Lodge at Woodlawn School, just north of Davidson. Find us.
Also, all are invited to an informal meet & greet with Rev. Brooks at 10 a.m. New visitors and all who started attending while Rev. Brooks was away this past fall are especially encouraged to come.
