August 15th, Christy Shi on Local Food

Christy Shi founded Know Your Farms with her brother, Wes Shi, in 2008.  Know Your Farms works with farmers to market their product and access the Charlotte consumer market.  Each week, Know Your Farms picks up food from farms in the Charlotte area and delivers it to their customers in the city.

Christy became a locavore in 2007.  This personal quest grew into a much larger initiative after spending time with the farmers.  She began to realize the immense need for rebuilding the local food system infrastructure needed for these small family farms to remain.  Through her work at Know Your Farms and participation in policy-related activities at the local, regional, and state levels, she seeks to strengthen local food systems.  She also seeks to raise awareness of challenges and opportunities facing the local food system through her work as a public speaker on these issues.

  • Due to scheduling conflicts with our normal meeting place, Sunday’s service will meet in the Carolina Inn, 215 N. Main St, Davidson (#45 on the campus map)
